Designed for 13 - 16 year olds

These school holidays, the Blue Tongue Squad is rolling out a packed program of fun, friendship, and real-world adventure for young people aged 13–16 across Brisbane and surrounds!

This isn’t your average school holiday program. It’s a chance to get out into the community, try new things, meet new friends, and build confidence, all while having an absolute blast.

From island day trips and city treasure hunts to creative workshops, science experiences, and arcade challenges, every day is different and full of energy, laughs, and discovery.

Along the way, participants will build important life skills like catching public transport, handling money, trying new activities, and navigating the community safely and confidently, without it ever feeling like “learning.”

Things To Know

Times

Blue Tongue Squad’s school holiday program runs on Brisbane’s bayside from 9am to 3pm each weekday of school holidays except public holidays.

Transport is available

Our team can pick you up from home in the mornings and drop you home again in the afternoons.

Transport on our excursion days is included.

Please bring your companion card and Go Card (if available).

Meals

Please pack your own lunch each day or bring cash to purchase if needed…
except for our picnic days! On these days you’ll be able to eat the yummy food we provide.

Week One

Monday 21 September - City Cat Adventure + South Bank Picnic

Hop aboard the CityCat and join us for a fun-filled day exploring Brisbane by river! We’ll travel by CityCat to South Bank, enjoy a picnic together, explore the riverside precinct, and soak up the sights and atmosphere along the way.

Participants will have the opportunity to practise using public transport, build confidence navigating the community, and develop greater independence through hands-on travel training, all while enjoying a relaxed day out with friends.

Tuesday 22 September - Op Shop Treasure Hunt

Ready to hunt for hidden gems? Join us for a fun-filled op shopping adventure as we explore local op shops, search for unique finds, and see who can uncover the ultimate treasure!

Participants will practise budgeting, making purchasing decisions, communicating with others, and navigating the community while building confidence and independence. It’s a chance to get creative, discover something special, and enjoy a fun day out with friends.

Wednesday 23 September - Ten Pin Bowling Mount Gravatt

Strike up some fun and level up your holiday adventures!

Join us for an action-packed day of bowling and arcade games as we head to Mount Gravatt for friendly competition, laughter, and plenty of excitement.

Whether you’re aiming for a strike on the bowling lanes or challenging your friends to arcade games at 1UP Arcade, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Along the way, participants will build confidence in the community, practise money handling skills, and develop coordination and fine motor skills through play.

Thursday 24 September - Creative Movements and Creations at Blue Tongue Adventure

Get creative, get moving, and let your imagination take the lead! Join us at Blue Tongue Adventure for a fun-filled session combining movement, creativity, and hands-on activities where participants can explore new ideas and create something uniquely their own.

Along the way, participants will build confidence through community participation while developing independence, decision-making, problem-solving, and fine motor skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Friday 25 September - Baking and Board Games

Bake, play and connect! We’ll start the day at Blue Tongue Kitchen, where participants will get hands-on in the kitchen, following recipes and creating delicious treats while building confidence and practical skills.

Once the baking is done, we’ll head next door to Blue Tongue Pantry for some fun and friendly board games while enjoying what we’ve made.

Along the way, participants will build independence, practise money handling, strengthen fine motor skills, and develop confidence through social and community participation.

Ready, set, explore! Join us for a fun-filled scavenger hunt at the local library, where participants will search for clues, discover new things, and work together to complete a series of challenges.

Along the way, participants will build confidence and independence in the community while developing decision-making, problem-solving and teamwork skills in a fun and engaging environment.

Get ready to explore nature and discover something new! Join us for an exciting day at Karawatha Discovery Centre, where participants can explore the natural surroundings, learn about local wildlife and enjoy a fun day out in the community.

Along the way, participants will build confidence and independence while making decisions, exploring their surroundings and taking an active role in their day.

Wednesday 30 September - Movies and Popcorn Day

Movies & Popcorn Day at Blue Tongue Adventure

Lights, camera, action! Settle in for a fun-filled movie day at Blue Tongue Adventure, complete with delicious popcorn and plenty of laughs. Participants can relax, enjoy a movie together, and spend quality time socialising with friends in a welcoming environment.

Along the way, participants will build confidence through community participation, practise independence and decision-making skills, and enjoy connecting with others through a shared experience.

Thursday 1 October - Science and Sensory Experience

Get curious and experiment with science! Participants will explore exciting chemical reactions through hands-on experiments, discovering what happens when different ingredients interact and learning through play and exploration.

Along the way, participants will practise problem-solving, make decisions about their experiments, and develop fine motor skills through hands-on activities — all while building confidence and having fun.

Monday 5 October - Museum City Adventure

All aboard for a day of exploration! We’ll catch the train into the city and head to the museum for a fun day discovering new exhibits, learning something new, and exploring everything the city has to offer.

Along the way, participants will practise using public transport, build confidence navigating the city, and develop greater independence through hands-on travel training and community participation.
