Looking ahead to life after school can be daunting. We know because we’ve been there too! As a young person living with disability you may be wondering what your options are, or still working out what you’re passionate about.

The team at Blue Tongue offers a range of unique and fun programs to inspire and excite you! You’ll learn new skills, make friends and build your confidence.

Learn about all aspects of food, from cooking and safety to prep and nutrition.

Perfect For: Young adults (16+) who want to learn and develop skills in the kitchen

What To Expect: Learn all about food preparation, safety and nutrition – from hygiene to knife skills. Our crew learn how to cook up a storm preparing both savoury and sweet foods, developing skills they can use at home. It’s cooking with a side of gardening, when we harvest our own produce to include in our meals. And by the end of the term you’ll have your own recipe book to take home!

Health and Wellness
Move your body and enrich your mind! We're all about getting active.

Perfect For: Young adults (16+)

What To Expect: Move your body and enrich your mind! In the morning we’re all about getting active: setting out with our friends to play squash, footy, basketball, or anything else that gets those muscles working. In the afternoon we slow it down a bit, being present and mindful. Journaling, yoga or even a moment of meditation – it’s about learning how to regulate emotions and being present within yourself.

Learn Woodwork and safety skills in our very own Blue Tongue Wynnum workshop!

Perfect For: Young adults (16+)

What To Expect: From restoring old furniture to creating all-new pieces, we learn and practice woodwork skills in our very own workshop. We learn how to safely use a range of tools, and we use practical techniques on everything from functional items to works of art.

Art Goes Digital
Technology meets art as we learn to use digital platforms to design and create.

Perfect For: Young adults (16+) interested in media and film

What To Expect: Technology meets art as we learn to use platforms like iMovie, Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and more to design and create our own artworks. This program also provides an introduction to photography skills: understanding, angles, lighting and composition.

Cafe Culture
Cafe Culture
Learn and develop kitchen skills for at home or working in a cafe setting.

Perfect For: Young adults looking to develop their cooking skills, or wanting to build employment skills in a hospitality setting

What To Expect: Learn and develop kitchen skills for home or work. In this program we learn to make delicious meals to be served in a café or restaurant setting – but we can also re-create the recipes at home. We also learn food health and safety, time management, money handling… all kinds of skills we could use in a hospitality job. It’s a great way to learn more about preparing our own food, while seeing what it takes to land a job in hospitality!

Making Music

Support your physical and mental health with the power of music.

Perfect For: Young adults (16+) who want to enjoy the benefits of music and movement – or even learn an instrument!

What To Expect:  Dance and laugh with the group, chill out to some soothing tunes, or even pick up a guitar and learn some notes! Music can have amazing impacts: from improving verbal and non-verbal communication to easing anxiety and even boosting memory.

Get hands-on and create beautiful soaps, scrubs and lotions for sale.

Perfect For: Young adults (16+)

What To Expect: Work with the most fabulous-smelling ingredients to create the beautiful soaps, scrubs and lotions in our own Blue Tongue Industries range of bath and body products! We get hands-on as we experience the manufacturing process from a concept through to the finished product, which is stocked on shelves at Blue Tongue Collectables and Blue Tongue Pantry. It’s also a fun (and fragrant) way to practice our fine motor skills.

Art and Soul
Art and Soul
Explore different mediums and learn new artistic skills and techniques.

Perfect For: Young Adults (16+)

What To Expect: A chance to learn new artistic skills and techniques, and let your creativity flow. Our Blue Tongue artists are able to go where the artistic mood takes them: sketching still life, using charcoal, using acrylics, learning to shade, learning to use a grid reference… the list is endless! Artists may have their pieces displayed in the Blue Tongue Collectables showroom for sale to the public.

Head out on a day of adventure and feel connected to your local community.

Perfect For: Young adults (16+) to make friends and connect with the community

What To Expect: It’s all about FUN on (Thank-Gosh-It’s) Friday! The crew heads out on a day of adventure: movies, bowling, shopping, or even a pamper day for the gals. It’s all about creating meaningful relationships, and feeling connected to our local community and all it has to offer.

Adventure League
All-ability fun. Soak up the outdoors and tackle challenges with friends!

Perfect For: Young adults (16+) who want to get outdoors to learn and challenge themselves.

What to expect: Outdoor adventures! Getting outside to soak up nature and tackle challenges has benefits for both body and mind. These all-abilities adventure care always fun, with just enough of a challenge to help you push your limits. This develops resilience and delivers that incredible confidence-boost that comes with achieving goals!
